( arisu can't hear chishiya's laugh — chishiya can't see arisu blush. )

oh, they'll love that. we'll be the talk of the tupperware party.

( gossips, all of them. arisu doesn't really mind. it kind of makes him smile, actually.

Sometimes. It depends on the coffee. Why?

[dispassioned]

[immediately and without hesitation.]

( everything in this place is pretty close together, or at least well within walkable distance, so arisu manages to make it to the medical clinic within the next fifteen minutes, coffee in hand and cookies in a little baggy, their bento boxes for lunch in a tote over his shoulder. at the front desk, he greets the checkin lady with a proffered cookie, making small talk, before saying, )

I'm here for Dr. Arisu, actually. I'm his husband.

( and with the okay, heading deeper into the clinic to find the doctor in question. )

[Chishiya has, perhaps, been waiting and listening for Arisu to arrive. The clinic hasn’t gotten any patients today. It doesn’t get patients most days, probably because people tend to disappear if they show signs of illness. Not only is that messed up just on principle, it leaves Chishiya with nothing much to do except fold origami animals out of medical pamphlets and sheets from his prescription pads. Well, that and chat with the five other employees of this clinic but that isn’t very exciting, either.

When he hears Arisu's voice he pops his head out of his office door and waves at him.]

In here.

( he looks so cute in his little lab coat 😔

with a smile on his face, arisu animatedly holds up the coffee. )

I brought coffee!

( well, duh. he already knew that. ducking his head, arisu heads into chishiya's office, offering up the bag of cookies. )

There are cream packs in there, and sugar. ( a second long pause. ) Also cookies. Obviously. I got a couple kinds.

[dispassioned]

[He takes the cup of coffee Arisu offers him, his lips twitch slightly in amusement. And there’s something else in Chishiya’s gaze, too, as Arisu ducks his head and steps inside. Something warmer and softer than amusement alone.

He takes the cookies, too, and gestures for Arisu to take a seat.]

You can take the chair.

[Chishiya could grab a chair himself, but he chooses to sit on his desk instead, because this town makes him want to be the opposite of "normal" in any way possible. Once he's settled there he will inspect to cookies to see what Arisu chose.]

( he plops down gratefully, snagging his own coffee and tending to the additives. in theory, things should probably feel tense and weird around chishiya — after their drunk kissing encounter, there's a big question mark on whether or not kissing is encouraged or expected in the future. but, weirdly, since things are almost always a little tense with chishiya, the addition of kissing doesn't really effect much. if anything, arisu is even more relaxed than usual, sipping his coffee, comfortable enough in chishiya's space after pretty aggressively cuddling with him most nights. )

Thanks. ( after a second, ) What's your favorite kind of cookie?

[dispassioned]

[He adds some sugar to his coffee and then sips it before deciding to add some cream, too.

He glances at Arisu at his question. It’s the sort of thing he might normally dodge just to be annoying, but he decides today to answer without being a troll about it.]

Hmm. I like things like wheat biscuits and butter cookies. Shortbread.

[Cookies with a more subtle sweet flavor than American favorites like chocolate chip and peanut butter. Not that he has a strong objection to chocolate chip. They’re pretty good, actually.]

What about you?

[alternatives]

( he pulls a very animated disgusted face. )

You really are a doctor.

( 'wheat biscuits.' ok grandpa.

after a beat though, arisu grins, snagging the bag from chishiya and stealing a cookie. he just goes for whatever the one on top is — a sugar cookie. he hums happily after a bite. )

I'm not much of a sweets person, but I like chocolate ones.

[dispassioned]

What’s that supposed to mean?

[He huffs, more amused than annoyed but making a show of seeming exasperated.]

No one believes me when I tell them they’re good.

[Of course he was trying to be more annoying then convincing during the Jack of Hearts game. But still.

He eyes Arisu curiously.]

Not any sweets? You seemed to like those pancakes we had at the diner.

[alternatives]

It means you chose, like, the healthiest cookies. ( but arisu grins at him. ) I need to try some as an adult, I think.

( munching on the cookie, arisu gives it some thought. )

Pancakes are sort of breakfast dessert, so they're good. But if I'm going for a snack, I'll probably grab something savory. You know, ( he mimes clicking something on an invisible computer mouse. ) gamer fuel.

[dispassioned]

[His lips twitch again, curling upward at the corners. He likes that Arisu is teasing him a little. It’s fun when he’s not the only one in the conversation doing some trolling. ]

Maybe you should.

[He takes a cookie out of the bag and pops it into his mouth.]

So you like chips over pocky.

[alternatives]

( leaning back in his chair, arisu stretches his long legs out, tucking them somewhere under chishiya's dangling feet. )

Oh, yeah. Any day of the week. ( he looks at chishiya, head tilted, with a thoughtful expression. learning things about him is like sifting for gold. ) Are cookies your favorite?

[dispassioned]

[He watches Arisu stretch out with interest. Or perhaps more accurately, appreciation.

He hums affirmatively at the question. He finds he doesn’t mind answering Arisu’s questions when he asks them. He’s earned his answers.]

For snacking, yeah. But if I want something savory I usually choose rice crackers.

[alternatives]

( a slower, creeping smile. )

Arisu-kun, are you a health nut?

[dispassioned]

[He blinks at him, watching the smile spread across his face.]

I’m a cardiologist.

[alternatives]

Is it a rule that doctors can't like junk food?

( he wonders if chishiya has any vices at all. other than lighting game boards on fire. )

[dispassioned]

[He raises an eyebrow as he eats another cookie.]

I like junk food.

[alternatives]

( grinning, arisu holds his hands up, as if admitting defeat. chishiya’s point has been proven, at least where cookies are concerned. )

So.

( drinking some coffee, he sets his feet more firmly on the ground, scooting into chishiya’s legs, although he’s more careful to look at the desk itself than chishiya, who’s in a somewhat advantageous position. )

You work here. ( it’s about what he expects — not especially unique to chishiya in anyway other than its meticulousness. arisu kisses his teeth. ) No pictures of me. What a bad husband.
